How Hot Foil Stamping Works

A heated die (engraved metal or silicone) presses foil onto the substrate, such as paperboard, plastic, or leather, under controlled temperature (around 200-300°F) and pressure. The foil’s adhesive layer bonds only where contacted, transferring the metallic or pigmented layer while the carrier sheet peels away. This dry process ensures clean, scratch-resistant application without inks, compatible with embossing for added texture.

Foil Types

Metallic Foil: PET film with vacuum-metalized aluminum coating in gold, silver, copper, or colored tones for classic luster.Pigment Foil: PET film pigmented with acrylic resin for opaque, non-metallic colors like pastels or patterns.

Holographic Foil: Features micro-embossed grooves that create spectral, iridescent shifts when viewed from different angles, adding dynamic security and flair.

Foil Stamping Process

To keep SBS C2S paperboard pristine, store it at 50% humidity and 68°F, away from sunlight to prevent fading. For shipments, allow up to 60 hours for acclimation in cold conditions, keeping protective wrapping on to control moisture. These steps ensure top-notch printability.
